I've mentioned before that I also collect the team sets of the Red Sox minor league teams each year. Usually I buy them piecemeal as they come out. But this year I decided to buy all five sets at once from the same place. Lily and Steve at stbsports.com are my trusted minor league team set source. They offer a discount if you buy all of your team's minor league team sets together, and it also saves shipping over buying one at a time. But I found out the drawback is you don't get any of them until all of them are available. Which for me meant getting them finally over the weekend. So save a little money or wait until the season's almost over. Next year I may reconsider, we'll see.
The Red Sox low A minor league team is the Lowell Spinners. I don't follow them at all, but found out online that they finished 2017 31-41 and last place in the Stedler Division of the New York-Pennsylvania League. Looking at their team stats for the year, here are the cards of some of their best players. The card company is Grandstand.
Yoan Aybar led the team in hits, triples, and runs batted in. I think he led the team in batting average too at only .267. Those above him didn't have a lot of at bats. He moved up to middle A Greenville later in the season.
Juan Barriento led the team in games played, plate appearances, at bats, and runs scored.
Marino Campana led the team in doubles, home runs, and runs batted in.
Jason Groome only pitched a couple of games for Lowell before moving up to Greenville early in the season. He got a bunch of Bowman and Topps cards this year as one of the Red Sox top prospects.
Denyi Reyes led the team in all of the pitching triple crown categories. He was 9-0 with 53 strikeouts and a 1.45 ERA. Wow!
Dakota Smith was second in wins and strikeouts. And I like the name Dakota. He moved up to Greenville later in the season.
So there you have the highlights of the Lowell Spinners team set. Next up will be the Greenville Drive.
